Thara Celehar

Physical Description: A bony man with a long, neat braid and a perpetually tired look to him. He wears a worn but neat black robe, and has silvery-pale hair and blue eyes, as well as elfin ears that react to his emotions by rising and lowering. His voice is extremely rough and gravely when he speaks. Long hair with detailed decoration is the norm in this setting, particularly to show rank. For his part Thara wears his hair in a braid with pins that have pearl decorations in his hair.

Personality
: Thara is a haunted man. To do their work, a Witness for the Dead must touch a corpse and live through their memories. For Celehar, who does so in order to uncover the truth of attempted murders in his current role, that means he directly experiences a lot of terrible murders. They leave him haunted. They also leave him with little care for petty obstructions to his work. He's brusque to the point of being rude, when it comes to people he does not have respect for, up to and including interrupting the Emperor of the Elflands. He also has a deep curiosity and a willingness to learn from all kinds of people about their personal realm of expertise, whether that's listening to philosophers, craftsmen, or journalists. He loves cats and tells himself he doesn't keep pets when he takes care of the local strays.

The Basics
: Thara is a Witness for Ulis, a god of the dead. He has the ability to speak to the dead and witness their last moments, as well as whatever other details the body of the dead may hold onto. He also has experience in destroying ghouls, and preventing their formation. He serves as an investigator of the dead, acting as their advocate in the religious and legal system of his home country, the Elflands (also known as Ethuveraz)

The setting of the Elflands is one that mimics a Victorian setting, with a steampunk aesthetic and airships developing during a period of recent rapid industrialization, bringing change to a setting with entrenched nobility and ruled over by an Emperor. In Ethuveraz, there are developing workers' unions, many industrial quarters, guilds such as the Clockmakers' Guild which creates all manner of machinery, not just clocks. Tea is the preferred drink of choice, and entertainment comes in many forms, but in particular calls on Opera Houses.

Language: Ethuveraz follows the Middle English practice of using "You" as a formal term of address, and using "Thee/thy/thou" in informal conversation! It also has a lot of particular forms of address and complicated language, but most of it won't be important to know to RP with him.

OOC

backtagging: Yep!
threadhopping: Ask first, please.
fourthwalling: Nope.
offensive subjects: Dental horror, extreme gore.

IC

physical contact: It will surprise him but from a friendly face he won't mind.
romance: He's very lonely - it'll be a slow burn though.
fighting: He isn't much of a fighter, physically, though when backed into a corner he might do his best.
injuries or death: Injuries are fine, ask about death.
timeline: Varies! Either post- Witness for the Dead, or during the Grief of Stones. May change after Tomb of Dragons is out.
